Meet the Artist

"Robin's landscape paintings are  dramatic, full of light, shadow and vibrant color and speak of her obvious love of the landscape."

Robin Fahey Cameron grew up in a culturally rich and stimulating environment, first in  Maine and later in Sarasota, Florida. She was drawing and painting from a very early age and was lucky enough to have a family that valued these talents and encouraged them in her. She received her BA in Studio Art with  an emphasis on painting from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Through the years, while still pursuing fine art, she also worked as a costume and set designer,  as an advertising copywriter and graphic designer and as creative director for a San Francisco graphic company. At the same time, she married, raised a son, lived in various parts of the country, traveled, grew beautiful gardens, went to graduate school for an MFA and continued to study and paint as well as explore other media including ceramics and photography.

In recent years she has concentrated on  landscape painting  She is a Signature Member of En Couleur  a  group of Colorists  whose roots are firmly planted in a fauvist tradition of rich color and free brushwork. Robin lives on the Big Island of Hawaii, after residing many years in Marin County, California. In Hawaii she is owner/director of the Banana Gallery in Hawi and is also the owner/director of the William Lester Gallery in Point Reyes Station, CA, one of the Bay Area's finest  art  galleries.

Through the  years she has retained a deep love of nature and of being outdoors. Now living in Hawaii, renowned for its beautiful  scenery, she spends as much time as possible being outside and capturing in her paintings the beauty of this very special place.  Working  "en plein-air" (outdoors)  and also in her  studio, she paints with quick energetic strokes on canvas or panels with a varied palette, lush with vibrant color. Her emphasis is on the rich colors and textures of nature and its subtle varieties and patterns of light and shadow.

Robin has exhibited widely through the years and her works appear in collections both in the United States and abroad. Recently she received an Honorable Mention in the National Juried Exhibition of the American Impressionist Society.  She is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America.

Artist's Statement

"The beauty of the natural world inspires my art. I need to express the quiet joy I feel in oak woods on a sun-washed afternoon, my sense of wonder at the beauty of a sandstone canyon full of rich shadow at sunset, the appeal of a narrow, winding path disappearing between tall trees. I strive to recreate, my sense of wonder in these places.

I am enchanted with the quality of light and the subtle yet rich variety of colors of the landscape. The stark contrast of brilliant washes of sunlight against pools of shadow and the complexity of forms layered upon one another create rich abstractions that constantly fascinate me. The hint of what lies beyond, the beckoning appeal of a path or road disappearing into a thicket, all leave mysteries unrevealed that call to me and draw me onward. When I paint, I feel this same anticipation. I can't wait to see what's coming next.

Creativity is a free-flowing, outward expressing of who we are and what we have experienced and certainly what we wish to share. With my art I am exposing what is in my heart, the way I feel about these places I love.

'Look here! See this!'

If you feel what I did, how wonderful. Yet if you feel something different, or are moved in any way at all, I have succeeded in closing the gap between us."
